Dear Members,
Due to the public health measures currently in place to combat Covid-19, it is not possible for Carrickmacross Credit Union Ltd. to hold our Annual General Meeting (AGM) as usual in December. Currently, there is no legislation in place to provide other options to our traditional AGM.
Aware of the difficulties facing Credit Unions, the Government announced that drafting has begun on the General Scheme of a Credit Union Bill to amend the Credit Union Act 1997 (as amended). The proposed bill will facilitate alternative methods of holding AGM’s and provide for other forms of voting. It also allows for a temporary period for credit unions to delay hosting AGMs related to the financial year end September 2020 until April 2021. The passage of the Bill through the Oireachtas is prioritized and it is hoped that it will be enacted before the end of 2020.
Therefore, the Board of Directors have taken the decision to defer our AGM until the New Year. Health guidelines at that point will determine how we will host this meeting.
We apologise for the inconvenience caused but assure you that the health and safety of members, volunteers, and staff is and will continue to be our priority.
We will keep you informed and will share further details of our AGM as soon as they are known. I thank you for your patience in these challenging times. Please remember we are always here to help.
Keep safe and well.
Brian Duffy
Chairman, Carrickmacross Credit Union Ltd.
